BRIQ Belt & Road Initiative Quarterly invites paper submissions for a special issue on the centenary of the 1923 Turkish Revolution, otherwise known as the “Atatürk Revolution” or the “Kemalist Revolution”.

The declaration of the Turkish Republic in 1923, following the Turkish War of Independence, has been a strong inspiration for oppressed nations struggling against imperialism. The Six Arrows, the revolutionary program of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk who is the leader of the Turkish War of Independence, is predicated on the principles of Republicanism, Nationalism, Populism, Statism, Secularism, and Revolutionism. These principles later became part of the Constitution of the Republic of Türkiye in 1937.

The Six Arrows program has gained universal significance in contemporary global politics, as the oppressed world has emerged as a significant actor and is now recognized as the Developing World, which offers an alternative to the imperialist system. This program's relevance has further increased with the remarkable success of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which aims to unite Eurasia and oppressed countries based on a joint program centered around the principles of national independence, international cooperation, partnerships, common development, and shared development. The Belt and Road Initiative promotes values that are similar to those of the Six Arrows program and symbolizes the rise of the Developing World, just as the Turkish Revolution did in its time.

Based on the context depicted above, the Belt & Road Initiative Quarterly (BRIQ) calls for academic articles, essays, and book reviews that address issues related (but not limited) to the following topics:

  • Development and the Six Arrows
  • The contemporary meaning and relevance of Atatürk and the Turkish Revolution in terms of overcoming the problems of developing world countries in their struggle for independence - International impact of the Turkish Revolution
  • Atatürk and the contemporary significance of the Cultural Revolution in Türkiye
  • Atatürk and the New International Order
  • Regional Alliances and Atatürk
  • The legacy of the Six Arrows and the Turkish Revolution for Eurasia
  • The future of humanity and the Kemalist Revolution
  • Kemalist Revolution from the perspective of foreign countries
